Using the ISTE National Education Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for Students (NET•S), I have:
CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM SOLVING, AND DECISION MAKING
Identified and defined authentic problems and significant questions for investigation. (NETS 4a)
Example: I choose my own area of interest and formulated questions that interested me about Italy.
RESEARCH AND INFORMATION FLUENCY
Evaluated and selected information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness of specific tasks. (NETS 3c)
Example: I have chosen a wide variety of information sources based on criteria of appropriateness and utilized digital tools such as Delicious and Survey Monkey based on my needs to complete the tasks.
TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS
Understand and use technology systems. (NETS 6a)
Example: I have used online resources in a variety of formats such as databases, text, and video.
Selected and used applications effectively and productively. (NETS 6b)
Example: Used tagging features in Delicious to organize found online resources.
Using the AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner, I have:
INQUIRE, THINK CRITICALLY, AND GAIN KNOWLEDGE (Standard 1)
Used prior and background knowledge as context for new learning. (1.1.2)
Example: Using what little knowledge I had of Italy (language) I extended my learning into other areas.
Used information technology responsibly. (1.3.5)
Example: Inquired about fair use for guidance by instructor. Also applied courtesy tags and used royalty free images.
DRAW CONCLUSIONS, MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS, APPLY KNOWLEDGE TO NEW SITUATIONS, AND CREATE NEW KNOWLEDGE (Standard 2)
Organized knowledge so that it is useful. (2.1.2)
Example: Used Smart Graphic tool in Word 2000 to visually organize my information.
I thought it might be interesting to tie in some Indiana Academic Standards to this project! I took a look at the standards related to Social Studies:
World Geography:
WG.1: Students will acquire a framework for examining the world in spatial terms. They will use and evaluate maps, gloves, atlases and grid-referenced technologies, such as a remote sensing, Georaphic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS), to acquire, evaluate, analyze, and report information about people, places, and environments on the Earth's surface.
Example: Used Google Directions to measure distance in Italy between two points to create map of Parma to Collechio.
